A career in music
Education

Dave began his academic journey with a degree in Pure Psychology, which he completed at University College Dublin in 1991. After many years of professional experience in the music industry, he chose to further formalize his musical knowledge by obtaining a UK Diploma of Higher Education in Music from Middlesex University in 2019, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to both personal and professional development.

Employment

Throughout his music career, Dave has held a variety of roles, including serving as a lecturer at BIMM University from 2011 to 2025, co-founding and tutoring at the Irish Drum Academy from 1999 to 2011, working as a freelance professional drummer since 1990 and as a freelance photographer since 2001.

Activity

Dave performed for Sean Penn’s Flag Day Soundtrack album featuring Eddie Vedder and Glen Hansard.

Recorded the single Truth or Dare with Bronagh Gallagher and Dave Stewart (Eurythmics).

Played on Rave On, Van Morrison’s Hot Press 70th birthday performance 'And The Healing Has Begun'.

Producing and co-writing Side 4 Collective debut album release We Burn Bright in 2020, featuring a host of international talents. The second album is being mixed and released for 2025.

Dave was chosen and due to play drums for The Cranberries World Tour in 2019 that was sadly cancelled, but appeared on the The Late Late Show performing with The Cranberries guitarist and songwriter Noel Hogan for the single Cry Baby.

Rehearsed with David Gray as part of his World Tour auditions and preparations.

Recorded with Lisa Lambe in Attica Donegal, for her latest album and was invited to New York to play in the Irish Arts Centre with her. 

Dave works as house drummer in the prestigious Camden Recording Studios and  Audioland Studios, making many records between 2021 and 2025, including DOGS, Andrea Corr, Josh Johnson, Glen Hansard, Alice Jago, Gerr Walsh, Nicole Maguire, Jane Willow and Yumi/Izumi Kitamura among many others.

Dave's regular band Kíla have been doing their usual blistering live set worldwide, including sell out houses in The National Stadium from 2018 to 2025, and travel as far as the New Orleans festival in January 2020, the World Rainforest Festival in Borneo in 2019, Russia in 2018, a USA tour in 2024/25, and 2 recent Artist Residencies in Paris in the Centre Culturelle.

Kila and Dave have also been writing and recording for recent award winning films, including the Oscar nominated films Song Of The Sea, Wolfwalkers, and took the prize for IFTA’s 2020 winners for Best Music Arracht.

Performed with An Emotional Fish at Feile Classical sold out concert in the 3 Arena with full Orchestra in 2021.

Co-produced Luke Carrig’s album in Squeeze’s Studio in London in 2024.

Dave also works regularly for the NCH as resident drummer in specially procured performances.
