Last week I was in London recording with an exceptional Irish songwriter called Luke Carrig and his band. I was asked to co-produce for the first time in my career. Not just drumming, producing as well. And giving out. We were recording in a big live-in Studio owned by Squeeze singer Glen Tilbrook. Read here for in depth insight into this special recording.
Halfway through our tour and 'reel'ing from arguments about Boy George, eating chemical sandwiches, and making mistakes in front of one of the best drummers in the world, we move on to getting lost in a Canadian city, doing photo shoots in vintage cars, over 55's menus, and false arrests.
My 10 yr old stepdaughter said I was so lucky to be going to the US … she said ‘I’ve wanted to go since I was really young’ ! Well, am I lucky indeed? The answer will hopefully be clear by the end of this 11 day tour.
This blog is a journey back in time, recounting a troubling set of hair-curling experiences revolving around, among other things, temptresses, rock stars, punks and politicians, killers, life saving exploits, and Bono's underpants.
The challenges of being a good Dad are one thing, but the challenges of being a good Stepdad are a bit more complex, but ultimately, one hopes, just as enriching.
I am proud to have worked with one of the great studio gurus of our time and have no shame name-dropping him whenever possible. The Frames recorded tracks for the album 'For The Birds' and another EP in his cool Electrical Audio Studio in Chicago in 2000/1. I learned a lot from this experience as you will see below. The photos I took during the sessions below are exclusive, never seen before (not even by the band!).
